Flamin’ June

Welcome to my latest online newsletter.

This month’s photo was taken at the workshop I ran at Cornwall College in St Austell following our recent performance at Lovedays in Charlestown, for the St Austell Bay Jazz series of concerts. It was a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic group of young people and a huge thank you to head of department , Laura, for making us so welcome. It was good to be back in the classroom for the first time in nearly two years and rediscovering the joy of creating music with enthusiastic young people.

On the 17th of June my quartet will be making a return visit to play in the Sunday Night Sessions held at Lemon Street Gallery Truro. This is particularly exciting for us as we will be premiering a lot of the new material I have been working on with Lucy O’Day, . Tickets are available from the gallery website or by phone on 01872 275757.

With the summer now officially started, I am delighted to have received a number of private bookings for parties and am looking forward to travelling to functions from as far apart as Pendeen in the far west of Cornwall to Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. It is a real pleasure to be playing with so many versatile musicians throughout the South West of England, meeting so many delightful people along the way.

I am thrilled to announce that in the autumn, my new ensemble will be performing at The Burrell Theatre Truro. It will be particularly special for me to return to where I spent thirty four years of my teaching career. More details on this booking will appear in a later newsletter. Our summer Wednesday evenings at The Headland Hotel will return from the 30th May and run until the end of August. So, if you fancy some jazz whilst watching the spectacular sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean it would be lovely to see you. My residency at The Budock Vean also continues with regular solo slots on both Tuesday and Saturday evening.

That is about all the news for now.

I hope to see you at a future gig.

Thanks for your support … as ever.

Simon
