Joy Spring

May.

Welcome to my latest online newsletter.

As the warmer spring weather and the lighter evenings brighten our hearts, there are so many exciting things to mention. This month’s photo was taken with my quartet and Lucy O’Day, shortly before our recent performance at Lovedays, in Charlestown, for the St Austell Bay Jazz series of concerts. We were delighted with the reception we received and pleased with the reaction to more new material including the songs featuring Lucy. In conjunction with this gig, Keith Marshall (Drums) and I were invited to lead a workshop with students from St Austell college. We had a lot of fun and it was good to be back in the classroom after a couple of years away from teaching. Many thanks to Phil Webb at St Austell Bay Jazz for organising both the concert and workshop.

I was absolutely thrilled that a track from Cornish Preludes Book 2 was played recently on Radio 3’s Jazz Record Requests . It is available for another couple of weeks on the iPlayer if you missed it.

Earlier in the month it was great to meet up and perform as a guest with my friends in The Swing Empire, at a private function in Falmouth. Always a pleasure to work with this talented group of jazz players and I look forward to repeating this experience again very soon.

The Sunday lunchtime jazz dates at The Headland Hotel have now finished for the summer season although we will be making a couple of extra appearances during their Jazz Afternoon Teas . These promise to be extremely popular and booking early is recommended. After a few weeks break, our summer Wednesday evenings at The Headland will return from the 30th May and run until the end of August. So, if you fancy some jazz whilst watching the spectacular sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean it would be lovely to see you. My residency at The Budock Vean also continues with regular solo slots on both Tuesday and Saturday evening.

Further details of any gigs are as usual, posted on the Bookings page which , as always continues to be regularly updated with any last minute additions.

In line with changes in current regulations, I have now added a Data Protection Policy which explains amongst other things, that all email addresses are kept securely and never shared with others.

That is about all the news for now.

I hope to see you at a future gig.

Thanks for your support … as ever.

Simon
