New Year, New Music!

January

Welcome to my latest online newsletter

Happy New Year to everyone. Now that the busy Christmas season has finally come to an end, things quieten down a little for me and subsequently I have a more time for composition. This month’s photo catches me in action and was taken by Hudson Swan who recently paid me a visit as part of his latest project to photograph a variety of musicians living and working in Cornwall. Needless to say, I am really happy with the results and wish Hudson well with this ongoing task.

Sarah and I had a great time during our recent series of Christmas gigs at The Eden Project, St Austell. The staff were friendly and helpful and we met many lovely people, who along with us, really enjoyed the superb lighting display on offer during the festive period. Fingers crossed that we get an opportunity to repeat this experience again in 2019.

Lucy and I are delighted with the reception received by our single Colour in Grey. Since the release on 10th Dec it has already appeared on a number of podcasts and been downloaded numerous times.

I am pleased to announce that  The Old Bakery Studios have invited my quartet to perform another Jazz Revival Lounge on 26th January. This time we will be joined for the entire evening by award winning crooner Andy Marshall, so if 1940’s swing is your thing it would be good to see you there. The highly successful, Jazz Jam continues to develop and will take place once again at The Old Bakery Studios the following weekend on Sunday 3rd Feb.

I can also now confirm that Sunday lunchtime jazz dates at The Headland Hotel commence again on 6th January, continuing every week until Easter providing another chance for you to hear Sarah and I at this beautiful venue. The Budock Vean Hotel has now closed for the annual winter refurbishment, re-opening at the end of January. I will of course, be returning as resident pianist then.

The New Year also sees me performing at a number of new venues. On February 1st Lucy O’Day and I, along with Keith Marshall on Drums and Sam Norman on Double Bass will be performing at The Chintz Symposium in Falmouth and then in April we will be at The Gylly Beach Cafe when we also be joined by Sarah on Sax and Flute. In May I will be at Bridport Arts Centre Dorset, where I will once again be performing with saxophonist Pete Canter. Anyway, there will be more information on all these dates and more in the coming months.

Details of all upcoming gigs are, as ever, posted on the Bookings page and this continues to be regularly updated with any last minute engagements.

That is about all the news for now.

With best wishes for 2019 and I hope to see you at a future gig.

Thanks for your support … as ever.

Simon
