Welcome to my latest online newsletter.
Once again, there is much to report from a busy and varied number of events. This month’s photo was not taken at a gig but instead at a recent talk I gave to U3A members of the Truro Jazz Appreciation Group based in Carnon Downs. I spent a lovely afternoon with this crowd of jazz fans discussing some of my favourite musicians and influences. It was certainly a different age range to those I have been used to addressing during my teaching career. I am indebted to David Weaver (the group organiser), for inviting me and grateful to so many of the group who have also supported a number of my recent performances.
The month started off in fine style with a trio performance at The Chintz Symposium in Falmouth with Lucy O’Day. The venue was packed and so well received that we have been invited back again later in the year. I will keep you posted as to when as soon as I am aware.
The Jazz Jam at The Old Bakery Studios continues to grow and the jam on the 3rd Feb was attended by a crowd of well over a hundred. The next one is scheduled for the 31st March as we were not available on the first Sunday in April. Jazz is proving to be very popular at The Bakery and consequently there will also be another Saturday night gig on 23rd March. This time it will be an evening of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday tunes and tickets are available here . It is likely to sell out so early booking is recommended.
Other new gigs this coming month include Friday the 1st March at Hillbilly’s, Falmouth, with vocalist Jeanne Naylor and a trip to Charlie Franks, Plymouth, where I will be giving my first solo performance on Saturday 9th. Later in the year, my trio will be playing at both The Old Library Bodmin and The Duchy Nurseries Lostwithiel. More details on these events will be available a little nearer the time.
The regular Sunday lunchtime jazz dates at The Headland Hotel continue and have now been extended until the end of May, whilst I remain resident at The Budock Vean Hotel playing a number of evenings during the week. For the very latest gig information be sure to check out the Bookings page as this continues to be regularly updated with any last minute engagements.
That is about all the news for now.
I hope to see you at a future gig.
Thanks for your support … as ever.
Simon
